• UO Music Video Series: Empress Of

Before Lorely Rodriguez released her debut LP under the Empress Of moniker, she put out a series of anonymous clipped Youtube demos she called “Colorminutes.” Her experiment peaked the interest of Internet music foragers and, in turn, led her to building out the more refined sound that’s front and center on September’s record, Me

For the 24th installment of our UO Music Video Series, we teamed up with Empress Of and director Eli Born to bring to life “Icon,” one of the more dance-driven tracks off of this year’s debut.

“This was a co-direction,” she says of working with Eli. “We talked about what the song meant, how I wanted [the video] to look, where we wanted to shoot and how we would get the feeling of the song out of these locations.”

What transpired after that is the dreamy video above, which shows Lorely walking the busy streets of New York City, drifting through blurry night clubs,  and cozying up to cabin life. Watch the video now, read our interview with Empress Of, and scroll through our behind-the-scenes images from the shoot.
