Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background!
I was born and raised in Mexico and I've always love to draw it has always been part of my life.

Can you tell us how you made your passion for illustration turn into your full-time job?
I wanted to work for myself, freelance and the only thing that I could think of was illustrating, so I had no other option.

What was a moment that made you feel proud as an artist?
The first time I saw a girl with a tattoo with one of my drawings, I will never get used to it. It blows my mind how can they commit to an image like that, it's always very special for me to see that.

What have been some challenges/ benefits?
My biggest challenge has been learning to work with other people, i love it but I am learning to communicate, you see, for a long time I used to work and do everything by myself, drawing has always been something very intimate for me but now this is a brand and I feel the luckiest girl to have an amazing/talented team to make my visions come to life, from production, marketing even customer service. The benefits is that I get to be part of an awesome community of girls who love Valfré.

Can you walk us through a typical day in the life?
I wake up, well my kids wake me up, play with them, make breakfast then I go to work, check emails, work, draw, work and at 4pm I go back home turn off my phone, be with my kiddos until they go to bed and then I turn on my phone back again, check emails, work a little bit more and go to bed. It's a pretty wild life I am living, lol!

How has your work changed over the years? How has it stayed the same?
I feel that my style is still the same, but I see that my characters have become more comfortable in their own skin, more free.

Who are some of your favorite artists and illustrators?
Ufff! I have so many but my top faves are Edward Gorey, Yoshimoto Nara, Guy Billout, Miss Van and Frida Kahlo.

Any upcoming projects or collaborations for the future?
We have a Crosley X Valfré collab launching early next year!

Have you ever found yourself in a creative rut? What do you do to get yourself out of it?
I do, it happens once in a while, I like to watch old movies, go for walks to the weird part of town, and look at old books and album covers, I get inspired by colors and faces.

Lastly, any advice for young artists?
Be very persistent, work on your craft every day and surround yourself by people that know how to hustle, because those people will inspire you to work harder to get to your goals.

You can find Valfré here at Space 15 Twenty this Saturday 12/10 for a Meet + Greet & Pop-Up. Check out more details on the event using the link below!
