• UO Happenings: Questlove and Anthony Bourdain at Herald Square

Earlier this week at UO’s Herald Square store in New York City, Urban Outfitters hosted a highly anticipated conversation between Grammy-Award-Winning drummer and author Questlove and chef and author Anthony Bourdain. Questlove’s latest book, somethingtofoodabout, explores the intersection of creativity and culinary craft, as the author interviews the country’s most celebrated chefs in hopes of answering the important questions: Can food be art? Can art be food?

Hundreds of eager fans stopped by the Herald Square store to watch the two foodies talk about everything from gummy bears to meticulously crafted sushi. Bourdain and Questlove discussed the inspiration for somethingtofoodabout, a fateful trip to Sukiyabashi Jiro, the Tokyo sushi restaurant made famous in the documentary Jiro Dreams of Sushi. Then, the two addressed a wide range of topics, including racial and gender inclusivity within the culinary industry, an oft discussed subject throughout the book, as well as the long (and troubled) history of soul food in the United States. In case you were curious, Questlove revealed his favorite brand of breakfast cereal (it’s Peanut Butter Crunch) and his favorite reason for going to Red Lobster (the cheddar bay biscuits, of course). For gourmands and music fans alike, it was a night to be remembered. Thank you to both Questlove and Anthony Bourdain for reminding us of the magic of a great meal. Scroll down to dig into more photos from the event.
