• UO Guide: Best Burgers


    May is National Hamburger Month and we couldn't be more excited to celebrate! In preparation, we're sharing some burger tips and tricks and rounded up some great recipes. Whether you’re a classic burger fan, a veggie burger aficionado, or interested in trying out something new, like a ramen burger, we’ve got a recipe for you. Gather your friends and get ready for the ultimate summer cookout. (Don't forget your appetite, and lots of napkins.)

    Choose your burger
    Whether you prefer meat or veggie, there are so many ways to make a perfect burger. If you are choosing meat, be sure to go with a higher fat content. 85% is perfect! This will ensure a juicy and flavorful burger. When shaping your patties, try to be gentle, and not overwork it. For 1lb of meat, you should get 3 perfect sized burgers.

    For the Veggie lovers, there are so many delicious premade burger patties you can purchase. Or you can try your hand at making homemade veggie burgers. Many are a blend of lentils, sweet potatoes, Quinoa, or beets. If you prefer a simpler route, a whole Portobello mushroom cooks up nicely and acts as a great meat free alternative.

    Season generously
    No matter what type of burger you are making, the key to success is seasoning before cooking. Salt and Pepper are your best friend in the kitchen, so don’t be afraid to use them liberally. Some other seasoning additions are smoked paprika, ground mustard, chili powder, BBQ seasoning, taco seasoning, and garlic and onion powder. You can mix and match to create a unique, one of a kind flavor for your burgers. Once you’ve found your favorite seasoning blend, make a big batch and store it in a mason jar to have on hand for all your cookouts!

    Top it up
    This is the part where your creativity can shine. The possibilities are endless, and will result in a customized, delicious, and unique burger!

    Some of our favorites are cheese of any kind (of course!), sliced tomatoes, caramelized onions, aioli, pesto, whole grain mustard, greens (lettuce, arugula, spinach), BBQ sauce, guacamole, BACON, pickles, and sautéed mushrooms.

    Don’t forget the burger delivery system…. choose a roll that can stand up to your creation. Or even try wrapping your burger in a butter lettuce leaf for a healthier alternative. If you are feeling very adventurous, try a ramen bun!
