• Tumblr Tuesday: Natalia Parsonson

We’re always scouring Tumblr for up-and-coming artists, photographers and interesting people to follow. On Tumblr Tuesdays we dig a little deeper, introducing you to a new person whose point-of-view we’re reblogging this week.

Meet Natalia Parsonson, an up-and-coming photographer who has already shot some incredible spreads for well-respected magazines Oyster and Yen. We spoke with Natalia to find out a few of her favorite things, where she draws her inspiration from, the and story behind five of her favorite photos.

How did you get started in photography?
My dad was a photographer and my mum was a stylist- I used to tag along to shoots and pretend I was famous. I loved the atmosphere. Then, in high school, I used to take pictures of my friends hanging out in the quadrangle; picking up the developed images was always so hilarious and a major highlight. I never realized I really wanted to take pictures professionally until I had been working in a modelling agency years later. It was then that I fell in love with it.

What subjects are you most drawn to?
People I love or admire. I also love naivety. I'm interested in capturing someone's personality, qualities and personal style.

    Favorite gear?
"A photographer went to a socialite party in New York. As he entered the front door, the host said, "I love your pictures - they're wonderful; you must have a fantastic camera." He said nothing until dinner was finished, then: "That was a wonderful dinner; you must have a terrific stove."

What feeling do you most try to convey with your photos?
Fun, innocence, honesty, that moment before someone speaks/laughs or is imagining/dreaming about something cool.

Does your photography style translate to your fashion at all? What is your personal clothing style like?
100%! I'm a '90s kid and grew up listening to hip hop and R&B... Madonna, Janet, Michael, Mariah, Biggie and 2pac were my heroes. I have always been influenced by combinations of their style, it's just a little more minimal these days: jeans, tees and sneakers, always!

Can you tell us a few of your favorite Tumblrs to follow?

Tell us the stories behind five of your favorite photos:

This was my first test shoot, with a really good friend of mine. I had no idea what to do which makes me think maybe that doesn't even matter sometimes.

A long term project which paid tribute to our idols. Monique Moynihan (styling), Margo Regan and I had too much fun with this!

My best friends at the beach. It's cool when you get your film developed and there is a photo you actually like! It motivates me to keep snapping.

Jessica Pecoraro, a friend and stylist, asked me casually if I would like to shoot with her for Yen magazine. We shot this in my bedroom last minute with my favorite girl Valentina. When they said we made the cover, not gonna lie, we were so excited!

Lilla Conradsen is a really cool and inspiring girl. I feel like she will make a big difference in the world. This is one of my favorite photos because I feel like it captures her spirit.
