• Tumblr Tuesday: Hannah Kristina Metz

We’re always scouring Tumblr for up-and-coming artists, photographers and interesting people to follow. On Tumblr Tuesdays we dig a little deeper, introducing you to a new person whose point-of-view we’re reblogging this week.

Today we're looking at the work of Hannah Kristina Metz, a New York-based photographer whose dreamy, candy-colored photographs make us feel like we've hopped in a vintage film. We spoke with Hannah (who has worked extensively with Samantha Pleet) to find out a few of her inspirations, the stories behind five of her favorite photos, and what songs she can't stop listening to.

Tell us a little bit about yourself!
My name is Hannah Metz and I enjoy the company of cats, making and eating food and adventures always.

What subjects are you most drawn to?
    My friends first and foremost.

    Favorite gear?
Just my trusty Contax G2 and my Pentax K1000 - and lots of Kodak Portra 400 on hand!

What feeling do you most try to convey with your photos?
    Real and attainable magic.

Does your photography style translate to your fashion at all?
I'd say the two go hand in hand fairly nicely. I've been wearing vintage clothing almost exclusively since I was twelve years old and a lot of my favorite bits of photographic (and sartorial) inspiration comes from '70s film stills.

Can you tell us a few of your favorite Tumblrs to follow?
I love my friend Dana's Tumblr: lots of wonderful inspiration there!

What's one thing you're looking forward to this year?
Finally releasing my first solo clothing collection, if only because it means I get to wear it!

Favorite food: Anything on the menu at Sqirl in LA.
    Favorite drink: smoky Scotch.
One band you could listen to forever: Belle and Sebastian immediately transport me to long country car rides in the sun and that's a place I always want to be!
One place you want to go before you die: Ireland, and if I'm lucky I'll die there and get to haunt those emerald hills for eternity.
Favorite song: "Stay" by Shakespeare's Sister. It's so much my favorite song that I can't really listen to it anymore, 'cause I ruined it for myself by ending almost every mixtape I made in high school with it. "River of No Return" sung by Marilyn Monroe is my favorite song to sing along with.
Most-worn item of clothing: There are a few vintage dresses that have been on rotation in my closet for over ten years! One of them is a peachy pink floral poly dress with a large peter pan collar that I may have to retire this year due to my bum's recent growth spurt.
Personal hero: I haven't one person in particular but many wonderful people who have come into my life and have made me a better person for knowing them. My nearest and dearest are reminders to be generous, kind and curious always.

Can you tell us the stories behind five of your favorite photos?

I like this photo because it was one of my favorite ways to sleep when I was little and I enjoy being reminded of sleep. It was taken in my friend Samantha's grandma's guestroom.

This was taken in Montauk. I'd like to go back to this day and re-live it over and over.

This was taken my first month in New York - I love all the textures and the light.

This was taken on a stroll in the Angeles Forest, an unplanned naked adventure. I love how the rocks look like they're holding her with big clawed fingers.

This photo was taken on the dreamiest trip to Hawaii, my brother didn't do the most thorough sunblock application and was striped red on the back as a result.
