• Tumblr Tuesday: Emily Knecht

We’re always scouring Tumblr for up-and-coming artists, photographers and interesting people to follow. On Tumblr Tuesdays we dig a little deeper, introducing you to a new person whose point-of-view we’re reblogging this week.

This week, we're taking a closer look at the work of Emily Knecht, a talented, LA-based photographer who we've worked with on a number of blog shoots (including our most recent About A Girl feature with Kenesha Sneed), because we can't get enough of her work. Here, we get a quick rundown on her personal style and find out the stories behind five of her favorite photos.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I’m turning 29 in November. I grew up in Los Angeles. I have a lot of friends. I’ve been a photographer for as long as I can remember.

How did you get started in photography?
I brought a lot of disposable cameras to sleepaway camp with me when I was younger and I filled all of them and covered my walls with the photos. I took my first photography class at 15 and I’ve been doing it ever since.

What subjects are you most drawn to?
    Girls and barren landscapes.

    Favorite gear?
    Contax T3, Contax G2, and Yashica T2.

What feeling do you most try to convey with your photos?
    Rawness and honesty.

Does your photography style translate to your fashion at all? What is your personal clothing style like?
I think I’m pretty simple. I like the classics. I also love being naked. So yes, I would say my photography style translates to my fashion.

Can you tell us the stories behind five of your favorite photos?

It was raining and we went to the pond anyways. We were cold and laughing and her face was so expressive.

My gamma in her kitchen before she moved.

Riding in the back of a friends truck.

She was taking her dress off underwater.

Wellfleet, Cape Cod. My favorite place.
