• Photo Diary: Lilac Hues with Alyssa Garrison

Using our spring palette of soft lilac as inspiration, blogger and photographer Alyssa Garrison of Random Acts of Pastel searched her hometown of Toronto for snippets of sky, colorful arcades, and bright pops of florals for a color-themed photo diary.

Hi Alyssa! Tell us a little bit about yourself and where you live/what you do.
Why hello! I'm originally a West Coast girl from Vancouver, but for the past 7-ish years I've lived in Toronto, Ontario. I run Random Acts of Pastel, which is basically my own colorful little fairy-tale world.

Your whole blog revolves around color and pastels. What is it about them that you love so much?
Here in Toronto everything is so dull and grey- there's concrete everywhere and even the people dress almost entirely in black, white and grey. When I first started RAOP I wanted to paint objects around the city pastel colors to inject a little bit of fun, and the concept really grew from there. Colors make people happy, and I think we could all use a bit more happy!

What kind of things are you drawn to when shooting?
My eye is always scanning for color everywhere I go, and so much of what I shoot is based on that search. I'm also powerless when it comes to gold, white marble, flowers, and sparkle. All the sparkle.

Any tips for photographers just starting out?
Always have your eye out for the next shot. I am constantly "pastel hunting" everywhere I go, looking for that new angle or tiny detail that others don't often notice. I honestly take photos everywhere I go, and practice makes perfect!

It seems like Toronto has some great hidden gems! Do you have a ton of favorite places there?
    Do I ever!

Her Majesty's Pleasure: Do you like fancy cocktails? Swoon-worthy nail art? Babely blowouts? At HMP you can get all three in the same place! I'm almost embarrassed to admit how many times I've skipped out on work to get tipsy and pampered. Almost.

Kitten and the Bear: I've been a loyal fan of this artisan jam shop since before they had even opened their doors, and my dedication only gets stronger with every visit. Home of the best tea service in Toronto and the most buttery buttermilk scones in existence, this tiny spot is an absolute must-visit.

True True Pizza: A pink pizza parlor with Subway-style "build your own" gourmet pizza options AND wine. Need I say more?

CONVEY: For hard to find designers, unexpected accessories, and the best upscale basics, this spot is the best. Half of my wardrobe is from CONVEY at this point, and every piece I've collected is oh so special.

Petite Nuage: This spot doesn't look like much (actually, it looks like a cargo container because it IS a cargo container) but I swear they have the best french macarons in the entire world - and I've pretty much tried them everywhere!

What are you looking forward to doing in 2016?
I think I want 2016 to be my year of travel. I just want to drop everything and take off every chance I get. Miami, Nice, Cuba and Tulum are currently at the top of my list, but I'll honestly go anywhere.
