• On the Menu: Oscar Night Popcorn

It's Oscars week! With a viewing party on the books, we're ready to set our focus on the most important part: the snacks. And what's a movie night without popcorn? Here are three riffs on traditional popcorn recipes — salty, sweet, and spicy — that are easy to make, unexpected, and so delicious. Basically, once you try these, boring plain movie popcorn will be a hazy memory. Just don't blame us when you haven't even made it past Red Carpet Fashion Police and the snacks are already gone.

    Sriracha-Lime Popcorn
    Ingredients:
10 cups popped popcorn (we made this on the stovetop but you could also use one large popped bag of plain microwave popcorn)
    2 Tbsp. Sriracha
    1 tsp sesame oil
    1 Tbsp. sesame seeds
    1 Tbsp. lime juice
    2 tbsp butter
    Salt to finish

    Directions:
Melt the butter in a small mixing bowl, and then remove from the heat and whisk to combine with lime juice, Sriracha, and sesame oil. Mix well to combine until it's emulsified — the sauce should be a nice orange color when you're done. Put popcorn in a large mixing bowl and drizzle the sauce over it. Mix until evenly combined, and then top with lots of sesame seeds and salt to taste. Be sure to have napkins on hand...this one gets messy.

    Rosemary-Maple Popcorn
    Ingredients:
    10 cups popped popcorn
    2 Tbsp. butter
    Nutritional yeast (to taste)
    1 bunch fresh rosemary
    Real maple syrup
    Salt to finish

    Directions:
Remove rosemary from stem and finely chop. Melt the butter on the stove or in a microwave-safe container. Put popcorn in a bowl and add in all ingredients: melted butter, the chopped rosemary, and a generous dash of nutritional yeast. Finish with a drizzle of real maple syrup. Combine everything well, and then add any more of the ingredients to taste. Finish with salt and prepare to inhale the whole bowl. Something about the combination of cheesy nutritional yeast and the flavor-packed rosemary makes this the perfect combination.

    Cinnamon-Sugar Popcorn
    Ingredients:
    10 cups popped popcorn
    Ground cinnamon
3 Tbsp. butter (we went heavy-handed here on the butter!)
    Sugar

    Directions:
This one's pretty easy: pop your popcorn and melt the butter on the stove or in a microwave-safe container. Then combine everything, tossing the popcorn in butter and then flavoring with a generous shake of cinnamon and sugar until it's spiced and sweet enough for your liking. Dessert is served!
