We’re heading south to hang in Miami with the team of women behind beauty brand Baiser. Handcrafted with 100% natural ingredients, this brand’s makeup, skincare, and hair products are a godsend for all sensitive skin out there.

Can you tell us a little bit about yourselves and where you’re from?
There’s a small team behind the brand: Claudia co-founder and alchemist, originally from Monterey, Mexico. She is also a spiritual healer dedicated to improving the lives of those around her. Erika is another co-founder and product designer, born in the beautiful Maya region of Cancun, Mexico with a strong background in design and art. And Maria, our Art Director, is from a small town on the pacific coast of Panama; she has a keen eye for design. It’s funny how we all ended up in Miami! We really enjoy working together. Every morning we sit down and have a vegan breakfast cooked by one of us, and we chat and share stories. It’s a great way to bring the team together.

What are your backgrounds in beauty?
Claudia has dedicated her life to spiritual healing, always being conscious of what she puts on her skin and body. She was tired of the average beauty products filled with harmful chemicals and started to make her own. Erika grew up in a family with strong Mayan heritage, always making things from scratch using recipes that were passed down from generation to generation. We both knew and appreciated the value of handcrafted alternatives from a young age.

    How did Baiser first start?
Two friends with a passion for nature and consciousness wanted to make a difference in the world by creating beauty products with a higher purpose. Baiser Beauty was born summer 2014, with the intent of being an eco-conscious and pure beauty brand that would bring awareness to consumers about respecting the planet, ourselves, and all living beings. Our collection of makeup and skincare provides a holistic approach to beauty. Every product has healing, nourishing and restorative properties, that balance our mind, body and spirit. In the future we want to be a well-established eco-conscious holistic beauty business, dedicated to creating an equilibrium on earth for more sustainable living.

What made you guys decide to focus on skincare AND makeup?
We grew up in families that paid tremendous respect to the planet. It was more than common to seek healing from our great-grandmother's natural recipe book than by going to the pharmacy. Our families taught us the importance of respecting the ecosystem around us, because it's the one giving us life. Women absorb almost 5LB of toxic chemicals a year using average beauty products. We want to put an end to that and impact the beauty industry in a positive way. We want woman to be proud of their natural beauty and create products that embrace who we are, not hide it. The fact that we have the opportunity to build a responsible, ethical, earth-conscious business inspires our heart deeply.

With such a strong background in natural beauty, do you have any natural skincare or beauty tips?
You’ve come to the right place! We have many! To name a few of our favorites:
-Start your morning with a glass of lukewarm water and lemon to cleanse your body of toxins.
-Practice meditation and breathing every day if possible. It balances your mind and spirit and soothes your skin. The less stressed you are, the more beautiful you look.
-Wash your face once a week with baking soda, because it removes dirt and impurities from the skin, and it also prevents blemishes.
-Follow a vegan diet, with lots of fruits and vegetables. It will keep you body clean and your skin radiant.

Can you tell us a little bit about the “Foundation” portion of your site and what it is?
Our business has a purpose in society, and at the end of the day we want to make people more conscious. Through our foundation “Love You More” we spread awareness and support organizations that take care of animals and protect the environment. A percentage of our sales is donated to those organizations that protect the environment and animals –specially those who’ve been rescued from test labs. It’s extremely important to us to educate our customers to be conscious consumers and respectful towards others. Just by setting an example in our community will drive more people do the same; tiny steps to make our world a better place for future generations.

What kind of ingredients do you guys find yourselves using?
We source our ingredients from organic farms around the US, and all of our ingredients are 100% certified organic and have aroma therapeutic grade qualities. Our formulas are a mix of essentials oils and powders derived from plants and vegetables and spices, like cinnamon and cacao. Each ingredient we use has unique properties that soothe and nourish our mind, body and spirit. A few of our favorite ingredients are: lavender essential oil, beet root powder, arrowroot, aloe vera, cold pressed cucumber seed oil, witch hazel, lemongrass oil, rosemary essential oil, macademia nut oil, neroli essential oil, tea tree, hemp seed oil, coconut oil. We know everything sounds delicious, and yes our studio always smells amazing!

Can you tell us a little bit about your process for creating new products?
The three of us have unique rolls in the process. Erika is in charge of scanning the market and searching for the needs of our customer and how we can improve their lives. She looks for ways to reinvent the wheel in terms of pure and natural beauty. Claudia then researches ingredients and figures out the right ones for the type of product we want to create. What aroma therapeutic and spiritual qualities they have and what are the best ways to take advantage of their healing properties. We do a few rounds of tests on ourselves before landing the perfect formula. This is a group effort: we all test, smell, and review the formula. When the right formula is set in stone, Maria designs the packaging and all marketing materials for the new product. It’s always very exciting to see our vision come to life.

What’s been the best part about starting your own company? The hardest?
The best and hardest moments are the same for us, we enjoy every challenge and reward that comes our way. It’s a continuous learning curve. We are teaching ourselves everyday how to run a conscious business. It’s not easy to create beauty products that are chemical free, but it makes us very happy knowing that we are improving the lives of our customers with each of our formulas.

You’re based in Miami Beach – what’s your favorite thing about living and working there?
Our studio is located in the heart of the historic Art Deco district in South Beach. It’s a small cozy space where we make everything happen. It has a peaceful and calm atmosphere, filled with plants and good vibes. We play relaxing music all day long to keep the positive energy flowing. We love our neighborhood, because there’s never a dull moment around here. There’s always people on streets, green everywhere and the pastel colored art deco buildings are just the cutest. Our favorite street to daydream is Euclid, between 14th and 9th. We can walk or bike anywhere and even go sunbathing during our lunch break!

If we’re only in Miami for one night, where do we NEED to go?
Okay! We are going to give you a very local and laid back itinerary. You can watch the sunset on South Point Beach while eating an acai bowl from Pura Vida Café (our favorite), then you can grab a drink at the historic Club Deuce and end your night at La Sandwicherie - they make the best sandwiches in town.

One thing you’d like to tell everyone about Baiser that they might not know?
We are not just a business; we are an idea of changing the world. By doing things differently we are affecting the common consciousness. Even though is a lot more work to create responsible, ethic, high-quality goods free of harmful chemicals, we do it anyway because it makes us happy.
