• Dickies X Urban Outfitters: Alondra 'Sweet Leaf' Gonzalez

Going a day without skateboarding just doesn’t feel right to Alondra “Sweet Leaf” Gonzalez. Born and raised in La Habra, California, the aspiring model has found that performing—whether on set or at the skatepark—has helped her find her voice.

What did you want to be when you were growing up?
I actually wanted to be a chef up until I was around thirteen. Then after that I just wanted to model for the rest of my life.

    What women inspire you?
I’d have to say my mom—she created me! She also definitely taught me to not give a shit what anyone thinks.

What advice would you give to someone trying to get into your field?
Seek out a lot of different experiences. Be willing to share and give your time to working hard, even if it’s just for experience. Eventually you’ll land a cool job and get paid for it!

    What are you proud of?
I’m proud that I finally allowed myself to become me and that I’m finally doing what I really love.

What challenges do you/have you faced in your field? How did you overcome them?
One thing I definitely struggled with was being shy. I’ve always been extremely shy and it took a lot for me to break out of that shell. Skateboarding and modeling have really helped me with that.

What’s the best part about what you do?
Just being able to be myself.

How do you stay inspired/motivated every day?
I skateboard—I love it. Going a day without skateboarding just doesn't feel okay. I don’t feel good.

What do you hope for women in the future?
I hope that we stop letting these barriers that others have made up for us control what we do.

What makes you proud to be a woman?
I’m proud to be a woman because I’m fully capable of doing anything just like everyone else.

What advice would you give to young girls?
Basically just be yourself. Find your own style, don’t let anyone control that. Because that’s something that no one can take away from you.

What makes what you do worth it?
Playing dress up everyday makes it worth it. Playing a new roll and being myself all the while.

    Wildcard! Tell us anything.
Go do what you love and listen to some Sabbath.
