Jason Nocito is a New York City photographer who is going gangbusters right now. He got early recognition for his "My Brothers House" images - teenage wild ones getting rowdy, getting stoned and getting laid - that ran in Tokion a few years back. Since then he's gone on to shoot for Vice, Dazed & Confused, The Fader and Nylon. He brought his gritty meets pretty aesthetic to our Late Fall catalog and we couldn't be more pleased with the results.

UO: So how'd you get started?
JN: I begged my brother to give me his camera in high school so I could take pictures of friends hanging out and getting stoned and going to hardcore shows.
Who was your first client?
Nylon Magazine.
What's your fave subject matter to shoot?
Lately? Rocks, trees, it's actually hard to say. It could be almost anything as long as it fits into what I'm trying to say.
How did you hook up with your rep?
I emailed her.
How did you hook up with Urban Outfitters?
They emailed me.
Tell us a little about your experience shooting our Late Fall catalog.
I had a blast. I think we all did. It's really important for me to have fun with things like this or else I feel like the days can become more drawn out then necessary.
Are there any new jack photographers we should know about?

(Continued)

Hmmm... I'm not sure. There are definitely ALOT of photographers out there.
Are there any photographers you'd call out as influences?
Michael Schmidt.
What else are you into at the moment?
Books, shoes, and my bike.
Let's nerd out... tell us about your setup...
I don't have one set up. I use many different types of lenses and cameras. I shoot digital and on film. I kinda love it all.
Has there been anyone who's been really fun to shoot? It looks as if you get your "subjects" to really chill out and have fun.
Yeah, I had a blast a few weeks ago shooting Bradford (Cox) from the band Deerhunter for The Fader.
What makes a good photograph?
Sugar and milk please...
How do you prep for a shoot?
"SMOKE WEED EVERYDAY."
