Hi! My name is Olivia Grace Austin. I'm originally from L.A., but now I live in Philadelphia and work at UO's Home Office. I'm a loudmouthed nerd who is addicted to Instagram, Vincent Price movies and trail mix.
What's your position at Urban Outfitters?
I'm the assistant buyer for the beauty and men's grooming department. I help develop product and build the assortment that we bring in stores and online.
What was the first job you've ever had?
I waited tables at a coffee shop and diner.
And the worst?
See above. People can be so incredibly rude to their servers. And let me tell you, working brunch is true misery. After a few years in the trenches of the service industry, hollandaise sauce legitimately gives me the creeps.
Job-wise, where do you see yourself in 10 years? Dream big!
Karl Largerfeld's live-in cat nanny. I really believe Choupette and I are kindred spirits.
What's your day-to-day beauty routine like?
My day-to-day beauty routine is mainly focused on my skin. I am a true face lotion addict; I'm constantly on the look out for that perfect magical serum that will make glow like a luminous, pore-less, dewy peach. Right now, I love the Bliss Fabulous Face Lotion. With its lightweight formula and SPF, it's a no brainer.
As far as make up goes, I keep it clean during the day. I use the Anna Sui Spot Concealer under my eyes to hide the dark circles, and bronzer for contouring. For a day lip, I actually like the stain I get from my go to NYX Matte Lipstick in Alabama. I apply liberally then dab off the majority of the product with a cotton ball before leaving the house. It leaves just the right amount of color while still looking natural. I polish it off my look with a dark brown brow gel. I will always long for some Bambi Northwood-Blyth worthy brows. A girl can dream, right?
How about when you're heading out for a night on the town?
When switching from day to night, I choose to kick it up with statement eye or lip. I use liquid eyeliner for a cat eye or a dark burgundy lipstick. And I emphasize, either/or ladies, not both! For hair, I use dry shampoo at my roots to add volume. Batiste is the best.
Any at-home beauty remedies we should try?
One of my favorite at-home tricks is mixing coffee grinds and raw honey for a facial scrub. I know, this sounds like a sticky goopy mess, but the fine granules of the coffee are great to gently peel away dull skin, the caffeine helps brighten your winter-weary complexion, and the honey helps moisturize.
Do you get to test or try out any of the billion beauty products that surround your desk?
Yes! This is definitely the best part of my job. At any given time I'm wearing at least four different shades of nail polish. I actually keep a pack of makeup remover towelettes on the shelf above my desk because I'm always drawing all over my hands with new liquid eyeliners and loose pigments. With products I'm not as familiar with, I always try it out on my hands first.
How do you decide what to beauty products to buy? Where do you get your inspiration?
I'm constantly trolling the Internet for new cult brands and always on the searching for special trend products. I think the Urban girl comes to us for an experience that's a little bit more fun than the average department store beauty counter.
What are five beauty products everyone girl should own?
1. A solid dry shampoo. I do not know how I survived before I found Batiste, it's actually life changing.
2. The perfect multiple. I recommend the five-dollar NYX jumbo eye pencil. This chubby guy is perfect not only for a quick smudge on smoky eye accent, but it comes in a variety of awesome colors for all over. Strawberry Milk is a great for highlighting your cheekbones, the rust shade is fun for a metallic lip, and I've even been messing around with Rocky Mountain Green and Cobalt shades as body paint.
3. A luxe body scrub, like the Nature Girl Eucalyptus Sea Salt Scrub. The jojoba oil in this leaves your skin feeling soft as a baby's.
4. A signature scent. Rich Hippie Perfume's Wild Thing is a fresh take on the usual uber-floral and feminine Jasmine Rose combo.
5. A miracle lip balm, like Nuxe Reve De Lip Moisturizing Stick. They totally nailed it with this product. No messy pot, no goo-y hair-getting-stuck-in-your-gloss texture—just pure moisturizing goodness.
How about a few for guys?
I love good cologne on guys. Portland General Store has some great scents for guys (Whiskey is my personal favorite). Good hair pomade is requisite for dudes as well. I'm a sucker for that rockabilly vibe. Fatboy Perfect Putty Hair Paste has just the right texture.
Who is your beauty icon?
Baby Brooke Shields in The Blue Lagoon. Eyebrow heaven.
Looking back, what's the most embarrassing makeup or look you've ever tried out?
All through middle school I flat ironed my hair and wore way too much black eye liner. I thought I was pulling off some awesome riot grrl vibe, when in reality I looked like a raccoon.
Straight hair, wavy or curled?
Beachy waves, duh!
Red lips or red nails?
Red nails, preferably a Prabal Gurung blood-dipped French tip.
Regular hair colors or rainbow colors?
Ombre is here to stay. Neon green tips, son!
Clean eyeliner or a smoky eye?
Classic cat eye. Meow.
