Pratt Institute

For a lot of college kids, three months with no school means mornings in bed and afternoons...
on the couch. But this summer, nine Pratt Institute students spent their days in the studio, competing to design a dress for Urban Outfitters.

After six weeks of sketch reviews and sewing, they presented their creations to our dress buying team—including dress buyer Robbin Choi and executive design director Gayle Smith—who ultimately picked three winning designs to be available at Urban Outfitters this fall. "I think each student really considered the wearability of the garments while making sure that they are all unique," Robbin says. "They are all dresses that can flip the switch from day to night, depending on how the girl wears it. I can't wait for these to get into stores."
