Interview by Kate Williams and Ally Mullen

We tapped JJAMZ frontwoman Z Berg to model for our The Beautiful and the Damned collection and talked to her about a few of her favorite things.

Hey Z! Please list your five favorite things in L.A.

Hahaha, this is like the Inside the Actor's Studio interview!!

  • The look of the hills littered with houses
  • The light
  • The Griffith Park Observatory
  • My parent's house
  • The ocean

Where are you favorite places to shop for vintage?

Tavin, Flounce, Ragg Mopp, Resurrection, American Vintage in the Valley, Golyester, Julian's Vintage Clothing, and Playclothes.

What is your most-worn item of clothing?

A vintage Victorian blouse that was my grandmother's, then my mother's, and then mine, which I wore practically every day in high school until it literally started disintegrating. I've probably sewed it up a hundred times. I recently unearthed it and brought it out again. It's only a matter of time before it spontaneously combusts.

What is your favorite brand of eyeliner?

Whatever I end up with, really. Stila makes some nice ones.

Which of the seven deadly sins are you most guilty of? (Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Envy, or Pride)

Wow. All except greed.

What do you think happens when we die?

I think we continue to exist as we did before we were ourselves. Our atoms, born of stardust, which have existed for longer than we can comprehend, become once again part of the earth, the atmosphere, and continue to exist in other forms, forever. Or some shit like that.

What kind of cigarettes do you smoke?

Other people's.

What's your favorite or most used curse word?

Have you ever gotten kicked out of a club, bar, or show? If so, tell us why!

I got kicked out of a strip club on tour with the Arctic Monkeys once. Truthfully, I'm not entirely sure why.

Have you ever stolen anything? If so, what?

I am deathly afraid of stealing. Because I'm deathly afraid of awkward situations/authority.

What's the dorkiest thing about you?

I took four years of ancient Greek and won a national translating competition against all high school classics students for translating a portion of Medea into Iambic pentameter in rhymed couplets. Yeah.

What's the most embarrassing nickname your parents or friends have for you?

My dad calls me Zeezerizer. Except that's not embarrassing. I wish that were my real name.

If your band JJAMZ had its own sitcom, what would it be called?

The Suicide Pack

If you were to make a real Suicide Pact, whom would it be with and what would be the rules?

Suicide pacts should only be made in Romeo and Juliet kind of situations. Haven't found such a Romeo yet. Let's hope I never do!

What's the most stereotypical rock 'n' roll thing you've ever done?

The kind of thing you can't talk about in an interview.

What was the first concert you ever went to?

James Taylor!

What was your favorite song to sing as a child?

"Wouldn't It Be Nice" by The Beach Boys, the songs from Jem and The Holograms, and "Criminal" by Fiona Apple.

What are the five best records you own?

(Too hard a question, but here's what I'm listening to right now)

Bob Dylan - Bringing It All Back Home

Girls At Our Best! - Pleasure

Broadcast - Tender Buttons

Francoise Hardy - Comment Te Dire Adieu?

The Sundays - Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic

Piano or Guitar?

Brunette or Blonde?

Ooooh I love them both.

Polka Dots or Stripes?

Rilo Kiley or Phantom Planet?

I could never answer such a question!

John, Paul, Ringo, or George?
