One would not expect the art of someone named Maximillian to be subtle. One would be right. With colors and scenes reminiscent of black light posters, Lawrence's light-pocked sculptures, installations and paintings can skew futuristic or retro but are always trippy. Lawrence holds a BFA in painting from RISD, has exhibited internationally, and is also a co-founder of Space 1026 and independent publishing house Free News Projects.

An independent publisher with a specialization in art and music, Free News Projects has helped illustrators, bands, rappers, artists and photographers, as well as numerous people who don't fit into any category, get their work out there. Free News Projects recently published Pulling Teeth, their first retrospective of work by Space 1026 artists, and their record label-often under the name project-has released albums by Pink Skull, Plastic Little, Sweatheart, American Sneakers and even Vampire Weekend's debut 7-inch.
