What was the best show that you played?
It would probably have to be our first headline show in Mexico City. We spent the days leading up to the show at the Pyramids, eating all kinds of amazing food. We weren't even sure that we had an audience in Mexico but the 4,000-person crowd told us otherwise. Amazing people.
What was the best show you went to?
My Bloody Valentine...hands down. It was like being hypnotized gently with a sledgehammer.
What was the best music festival that you played or attended?
Probably Pitchfork Festival in Chicago, as we were lucky to play it at all. We flew all the way from Australia for this one show and got held at the airport for over six hours...We made it to the festival with 20 minutes left before they shut the whole thing down and we just threw everything on stage and played something like three songs. We were so amazed that people stayed around for nearly two hours for us to show up.
What was your favorite single or individual song from 2008?
Dennis Wilson "River Song." So technically this came out in 1977, but it got the re-release in 2008. You can hear all the weariness and deterioration in the vocals and everyone knows the history of Dennis Wilson yet there is a warm feeling of hope and optimism amongst it all as well. There is a line this song, "It breaks my heart to see the city" that resonated with everyone in the band after 12 months of solid touring.
What was your favorite album from 2008?
Deerhunter Microcastle: Such amazing songwriting and production on this record.
Your favorite new band/artist that you discovered in 2008?
Aeroplane. Hmm may have been 2007 that we discovered these guys but either way they have lead the charge on the remix and production front (along with Holy Ghost) in '08.
Best old band/artist that was still going in 2008?
My Bloody Valentine reunion
What was the best 2008 tour lineup?
Sonic Youth and The Scientists at Enmore Theatre in Sydney.
What album/song from 2008 did you play so much that now you never want to hear it again?
Cut Copy In Ghost Colours
What moment from 2008 (personal or historical) will you always remember?
OBAMA!
