Best Music of '08

What was the best show that you played?
The best show we played all year will be the special show we will play on Christmas Day, for our loved ones and cats. Any show that felt like that will feel would be up there. Sorry if that's too much of a koan. It's been a trying day.

My dad, at my house.

Pitchfork Music Fest—vegan ice cream!!!

What was your favorite single or individual song from 2008?
The Vetiver cover of Loudon Wainwright's "Swimming Song." Otto Hauser is an amazing drummer. "Salt my wounds, chlorine my eyes, I'm a self-destructive fool."

What was your favorite album from 2008?
In Ear Park by Department of Eagles, because it's respectful but progressive.

Your favorite new band or artist that you discovered in 2008?
Department of Eagles.

Best old band or artist that was still going in 2008?
Ya Ho Wa 13.

What was the best 2008 tour lineup?
Radiohead and Grizzly Bear but I didn't get to see it. Sob.

What album or song from 2008 did you play so much that now you never want to hear it again?
"That's Not My Name" by the Ting Tings. The lyrics to that song have no basis in rational thought construction. You could write more coherent lyrics with that refrigerator magnet word set, blindfolded. They played it in almost every public place we went this year, and I was more and more confused each time.

What moment from 2008 (personal or historical) will you always remember?
Are you kidding me??? OBAMA!!!
