Essential Films
The Holy Mountain
A psychedelic film by Alejandro Jodorowsky. The imagery is beautiful.

Twelve Monkeys
I love everything Terry Gilliam does but I am such a sucker for weird sci-fi and post-apocalyptic tales. Also the production design and the sets are amazing.

A Clockwork Orange
Stanley Kubrick is a genius. And I love bowler hats and false eyelashes!

Last Tango In Paris
A beautiful and bizarre romance and the sexiest film ever.

Beetlejuice
Tim Burton’s creepy child-like imagery has always appealed to me, this film especially. I always wanted to be Winona Ryder’s character as a kid.
Essential Books
Cathedral
by Raymond Carver

The master at subtlety for me. His short stories are beautiful and touching and rough and tough and heartbreaking and funny and I could go on forever. There really is no one I love more when it comes to short stories.

The Catcher in the Rye
by J.D. Salinger

When I first read this I couldn’t put it down. I re-read it every year along with most of his others.

Art Forms In Nature
by Ernst Haeckel

The most beautiful imagery I have ever seen.

A Wrinkle in Time
by Madeleine L’Engle

My favorite book since I was like nine. Again, I’m a sucker for fantasy, sci-fi, weird worlds and imaginary places.

Jesus’ Son
by Denis Johnson

Heartbreaking, funny short stories. I read this my freshman year of college and it always stuck with me.
