• Tumblr Tuesday: Berta Pfirsich

We’re always scouring Tumblr for up-and-coming artists, photographers and interesting people to follow. On Tumblr Tuesdays we dig a little deeper, introducing you to a new person whose point-of-view we’re reblogging this week.

Today we're looking at the work of Berta Pfirsich, a Barcelona-based photographer whose dreamy colors, locations, and subjects have us swooning. Read on to find out more about the photographer's life, and find out the backstory behind five of her favorite photos.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
My name is Berta. I'm a 26-year-old photographer from Barcelona. I quit my job two years ago and I haven't stopped taking photos for brands and for me since then.

How did you get started in photography?
I started taking photos at a very young age. I loved school trips and my parents gave me a film Fisher Price camera that I was always using to take photos of my friends and mountains and the bunk beds I was sleeping in.

What subjects are you most drawn to?
    Sad girls club.

    Favorite gear?
    Contax T2.

What feeling do you most try to convey with your photos?
    Realism and surrealism.

We love how feminine and soft your photos are. Does your photography style translate to your fashion at all? What is your personal clothing style like?
When I was little I had my hair really short and I used to dress like a boy. People used to tell me I was a really cute boy with beautiful blue eyes, so at some point I blew up and I became really feminine. I don't really know! I like to dress with nice, basic clothes and my favorite colors are black and white. I would like to dress with transparent sheer dresses and be like a '90s grunge bass player, but I'm too shy for that.

Can you tell us a few of your favorite Tumblrs to follow?

What's one thing you're looking forward to this year?
I've been traveling a lot for the past three years, so I just want to stay in Barcelona for at least for a year, fill my room with plants, and sleep with my boyfriend and my best friend every night. In terms of work I'm looking forward to working with some lingerie brands; I really want to do something sheer-erotic, but anti-sexy - something that visually looks like water.

    Favorite drink: coffee
One band you could listen to forever: Boards of Canada
One place you want to go before you die: Kyoto
    Favorite song: Smashing Pumpkins "Rhinoceros"

Tell us the stories behind five of your favorite photos:

For the shoot of "Heaven is Easy" with Hana Haley, we stayed in a Victorian bed and breakfast in Portland (Oregon), ate cookies and drank wine in the biggest bed I've ever slept in. We invited a model that we met via Instagram. The soaps of the bathroom had a tiger face shape and the lady who runa the house upgraded us to our favorite room just because.

This was a random day, about a year ago. We watched The Doom Generation and smoked a lot. As usual I woke up with the sun and I was so happy to see my friends like this, with the mayonnaise jar and the leftovers of everything around. Half a year later NEON magazine contacted me saying they wanted me to do a "Happy Hangover" editorial based on this photo. I wish I could always have commissioned work like this one.

I was in Beijing visiting my brother and I was pretty sick because of pollution/jet lag/everything and I couldn't stand myself. We walked through a monk monastery and this cat was hiding under a motorbike. I loved the colors of the blanket; the combination between the pastel and the white that was so so dirty. I wanted to take a photo of that and this two colored eye magic cat appeared and made my day.

This photo is very special to me because it's one of my first editorials that I shot with Jèss Monterde and it was published in Nylon. I shot this in a house in the mountains of Barcelona that was used to do yoga classes. I fell in love with the light and everything and convinced them that I was an artist and that I wanted to borrow it for a morning. The vibes there were so strange and we were so uncomfortable but somehow it worked.

My current life is a mix between the friends I've had forever and ever and the "new" ones I met taking photos. It's weird to say but I met a lot of nice people and I made a lot of friends taking photos. I took this one of Nuria while we were in LA doing a photo diary for Element Eden. We basically were on vacation, wearing nice clothes and going to the beach.
