Surf Daze Interviews: Kassia Meador
Here, pro surfer Kassia Meador talks to us about surfing, her biggest wipeout, and her love of photography.
Hey what’s up? I’m Kassia and I love doing rad stuff. Pleasure to meet ya!
How old were you when you first started surfing?
I first started trying my sea legs when I was 14 one summer at junior lifeguards. My dad had surfed in the summers and I had always wanted to try it, but that summer was my first one in the sea. I’ve been there ever since. Tell us about your biggest wipeout.
Hahaha, those are usually the things you try to forget. I was about 20-years-old and I broke my foot super bad coming off a floater. It took six months to get back in the water and another three to feel normal again. It sucked, ha.
What's one tip you would give to anyone interested in learning to surf?
Go with a friend (or friends) who is on your trip and learning too. It’s always more fun and cool to learn with someone.
Where is your favorite place in the world to surf?
Indonesia or Mexico—they are tied for me. The surf is amazing, the food is great, and people are rad!
Describe your photography style in one sentence.
If you could only use one camera the rest of your life, which would you choose and why?
The Polaroid 195 Land Camera if I could still get my favorite film for it. Polaroids are great because you really think a lot before each shot; you want everything to be perfect. So much thought goes into each image and because of that you get rad results What are five things you can't live without?
3. My dog
5. Lovely humans
