The UO Nice List: Steve Gorrow from Insight
Insight's creative director wishes for a golden pass to fly around the world whenever he wants, and a nice girl to plant a kiss on.
Hi, my name is Steve Gorrow
. I am an artist and designer from Australia, and I am the Creative Director at Insight
clothing. What do you love/loathe most about the holidays?
I love having no responsibilities, I loathe that it’s temporary.
What’s your gift-giving style? Personalized presents, or a Starbucks card for everyone?
I prefer personalized, it shows the love more, and its more fun to create. Even if it’s a crummy piece of paper with words scribbled on it, you know its from the heart.
What’s the best gift you’ve ever received?
My daughter. What’s the worst gift you’ve ever received?
If you could ask for anything this year (and money is no object) what would you ask for?
A golden pass so I could fly anywhere in the world whenever I wanted to and surprise my daughter on weekends. What is your favorite holiday tradition that you share with friends or family?
Christmas day lunch with all my family and friends, Australian style at the beach and with all our kids running around.
What’s your favorite holiday snack or food?
Lychees, mangoes and cherries.
Without looking it up, what are the ingredients in eggnog?
Egg and nog. I don’t know, I think cinnamon and milk.
Any idea how you will spend New Year’s Eve this year?
Either in Bali or in Australia with my family and friends. Not sure which one yet.
If you could be any character from a holiday movie, who would you be and why?
Maybe Thing 1 and Thing 2 would be fun, and my daughter could be in charge of what we do.
If you could plant a New Year’s kiss on your dream crush, who would that be and why?
Shit I don’t know. I met nice a girl this time last year but she vanished, I guess it would be nice to meet her again, maybe in coffee shop or something. If not that, than something out of the blue would be amazing too.
What was your proudest moment from this past year?
Creating the Collectables for Insight and seeing the positive response. I’ve been making art for a long time now; when I create something that gets a good response I feel proud. I had a Hong Kong exhibition this past year, which was kinda scary, but they liked it too, so that makes me feel proud as well.
What are you looking forward to most about 2013?
Going to see and explore Brazil and paint down in Guatemala with one of my best friends. I‘ve been wanting to do this for as long as I can remember, and 2013 is it no more waiting.
