• Penny on a Track

In her spare time, Urban Outfitters' NYC Regional Merchandise Manager Shelly Horst (with help from friends and family around the country), flattens pennies by leaving them on train tracks.  Because of the variety of the placement, speed of the train, temperature, and year of penny used (different years have different metal compositions) each one turns out differently, causing a unique, one-of-a-kind item.  After retrieving the pennies, they are then turned into jewelry, including commissioned pieces and special engravings.
