Friends in Austin: Khrystean

One of the best things about Austin is the people—they're laidback, friendly and super creative. Here, meet Khrystean, a local who's a student in philosophy and Japanese culture, and also a photographer.

Who are you here to see at UO?
DâM-FunK

What's the best thing about living in Austin?
A little bit of everything and you’re never alone, no matter how weird you might think your activities or interests are.

What's your favorite place to eat?
Momoko’s for bubble tea with the most endearing names; Dolce Vita for cocktails and gelato; Thai Passion for late-night Thai needs (open ‘til 2am).

What's your favorite place to hang out?
Shangri-La, Club 1808, and The Elephant Room for all-intensive boogie-get-down purposes. Barton Springs at 5am.

What's your favorite piece of clothing?
Right now, this bracelet my friend Stefanie brought back for me from Nigeria.  I have been wearing it every day; it's a good conversation piece because it's so noticeable but simple.

Any tips for people from out of town?
Be open to seeing many bands, some you might never have heard of and others that will full-frontal assault you, and you might just like it.  It’s kind of like being in an open relationship with fun.

What's the best show you've seen in Austin?
The Secret Machines and Morrissey in 2006 for free.

Who is your favorite musician of all time?
Ryuichi Sakamoto for consistent cinematic ambience and the sounds of the everyday. Also, Thomas Newman.
