We go behind the scenes of Nudestix to chat with founders Ally and Taylor Frankel about the brand’s newest launches and those universally flattering pencils we love so much.

One of our favorite brand launches of the past few years, Nudestix is an easy-to-use collection of smudgeable makeup sticks in natural shades. Setting it apart from other brands, Nudestix was started by Toronto-based teenage sisters Ally and Taylor Frankel and their mom Jenny, making it a completely homegrown line.

The girls, with help from their mom, realized that there was a place in the market for easy, all-natural beauty, which is where their makeup sticks came into play. Instead of focusing on covering imperfections and heavy foundations, the girls wanted to enhance natural beauty with fresh-faced makeup and subtle pops of color rather than full faces of makeup. While they don't completely eschew things like contouring (they do have a Bronzing Pencil, after all), they focus on a makeup routine that's super easy to apply and no fuss.

And that's the best part of the line: how easy it is to use. You can replace your entire makeup routine with Nudestix because the range includes eye, cheek, lip and concealer pencils. (Yes, eyebrows are also covered.) As an added bonus, no matter which Nudestix stick you end up buying, each one comes in a handy tin with an included sharpener, making the entire range super portable.

The girls both believe less is more, which means they like to mix and match their pencils and use them as needed. If you're having a particularly good skin day, why not ditch the concealer pencil and go for a bold lip look instead? If you are having a rough skin day, don't be afraid to cover up; each stick is free of preservatives, parabens and gluten, making them ideal for those with sensitive skin.

After launching in 2014, the brand has stuck to a few tried-and-true products, expanding some of their most popular ones into multiple new colors, like the Intense Matte Lip + Cheek Pencil, the Luminous Magnetic Eye Color Pencil, and the Nudestix Lip + Cheek Pencil.

The luxe Intense Matte Lip + Cheek Pencil is an extra-creamy lip liner, lip color and cheek cream and now comes in 12 different colors. The pencils are formulated to provide buildable color in a matte finish and include skin-nourishing moisture, thanks to shea butter and vitamin E. To use, you can either fill in lips fully for a more opaque look or blend out from the center of the lips for a more subtle stain finish. On cheeks, apply a few swipes of color and blend out with fingers. We even like to use these on our eyes sometimes for a soft wash of color that complements our cheek color.

Another favorite, the Magnetic Matte Lip Color, is a highly pigmented, long-wearing matte lip color. To use, swipe on a hydrating balm and then top off with the Matte Lip Color of your choice. The Magnetic Matte Lip Color lasts through eating and drinking and won't feather off halfway through the night. (The girls even challenge their customers to try the "lip tattoo" challenge to show off how durable their Matte Lip colors are.)

The sisters formulated each of their pencils with different skin types in mind, meaning that even if you're having an off skin day, the pencils won't cause any harsh reactions. Stock up and switch out your look often!
