We’re not the types to drop the coin or get on a wait list for one of Hermès’ Birkin bags. But we would spring for simple, functional accessories like their roll-able felt travel tray. (Via Journal-Inc.)

The Spring/Summer weather is finally being felt by New Yorkers.  That’s why we decided to take a trip out to Fort Tilden, a former United States Army Installation in the New York City borough of Queens.  It is pretty amazing out there, seeing that military installations on the site date back to the War of 1812.  Abandoned buses, houses, and warehouses remain on the grounds, sitting right next to baseball fields and the beach. If you are in NY this Summer, it’s definitely worth the subway ride out, just to be able to explore and make it your new Summer jump off! (Via Spacey Tracy.)

"We’re the Kate Moss of travel guides!” So say the team at Turnleft, who penned a new series of free city guides for urban travelers (read: the hipper-than-thou with money to burn). The guides are perfect for a short trip or catching up on the latest in a city and they’re published quarterly, which ensures fresh local content. The Helsinki guide (above) is out now and guides for Amsterdam, Berlin, London, and Paris are on the horizon. (Via FMCS.)

Camella Ehlke (Triple Five Soul’s founder) and her husband Marlon Aitcheson (a renowned chef) are co-owners of the Breathe Inn, a quaint yet modern bed and breakfast located in upstate New York. This is the place you want to go if you need to unplug and do it in stylishly appointed (and surprisingly affordable) digs. Oh yeah, there are mountains too.

Of the multitudes of collaborations we’ve been subjected to over the past year, this Raf Simons X Eastpak rucksack is one of the few that was done right. You might have caught a glimpse of them when he sent them down the runway as a part of his S/S ‘08 collection.

Don't Mind the Gap

Don’t Mind the Gap permalink

Emma Clarke is the infamous voice behind London’s pseudo-slogan “Mind The Gap”. She has been alerting London tube commuters to their upcoming train stops and estimated travel distances since 1999. She was let go after an interview where she called the London transit network “dreadful.” London may be lost without her.

Poor Philly

Stay Classy Philly - Part 2 permalink

A survey of more than 60,000 people at Travelandleisure.com determined Philadelphia home to the most unattractive people in the country. And it doesn’t end there: The people of Philly were then crowned least stylish, least active, least friendly and least worldly. Travel & Leisure editors try to soften the blow by adding, “We were asking people to vote on attractiveness, not unattractiveness. (We) believe there are a lot of attractive people in Philadelphia.”

One man sticker juggernaut BNE just released his latest print, entitled Tokyo Neighborhood Watch. He releases one print a year, only 100 are made, and they’re not cheap. But consider this: you’ll be providing BNE with enough coin to keep up his global stickering campaign.
