Men (and Women) at Work permalinkWe’ve been a little quiet on the blog front this week, but hard at work behind the scenes. It’s a project that’s been brewing for a while, and we’re excited to share it with you, our lovely readers, on Monday. Until then: bring on the fireworks and beer. |
From Boston 06/22/09LightLane permalinkLightLane was developed by designers at Altitude to encourage commuting by bike. The device attaches to the back of your bike frame and an illuminated bike lane appears instantly. Although the LightLane isn’t available to the public just yet, this product will give bikers the space they need on those all too many roads without bike lanes. |
From Elsewhere 06/19/09Fuck Yeah Animals With Casts permalinkA very small blog. We hope it gets bigger. And that all these animals get better. |
From Elsewhere 05/29/09LMGTFY permalinkDo you have a coworker who always asks you “What’s the capitol of Minnesota? How long do you microwave a baked potato? What time is it in Sydney?” Or a brother who calls you long distance to ask the dollar to Euro exchange rate and is it hot in Norway right now?—when you have no fucking clue about any of those things? Send them here. |
From Los Angeles 05/27/09Space 15 Twenty Blogger Shop Day permalinkBlogs are a great way to covet someone’s wardrobe, but now at Space 15 Twenty’s Blogger Shop Day, you can actually buy someone else’s wardrobe. Fashion blogs such as Fashion is Poison (pictured), Lulu and Your Mom, Fashion Intel, Taghrid and That’s Chic are among the many who are generously letting you snap up their own personal goods for a song, and the event’s hosted by Alexi Wasser of I’m Boy Crazy. |
From Elsewhere 05/27/09Twitter the Movie permalinkThe world cannot get enough Twitter. Or Twitter jokes. At least we’re praying it’s a joke—we wouldn’t want to sit through that, even if it was only two seconds long. (Via The World’s Best Ever.) |
From New York 05/26/09Le Fashion, Le Love, Le Smoking permalinkA trio of well-curated image blogs dedicated to clothes, romance, and cigarettes—two things a girl can’t live without, one that she really should learn how to.

From Elsewhere 05/22/09Tiny Art Director permalinkWhen a parent scathingly critiques their child’s art, it’s mean. But when Bill Zeman’s daughter (age 4) scathingly critiques his art, it makes for a hilarious blog. For example, of the above monkey drawing, which was done at her request, she said “Stupid ugly angry monkey. I hate him.” Chronicle will publish a book of Zeman’s collaborations with the Tiny Art Director next spring, and she’ll probably have rejected a lot more of his work by then.

From Elsewhere 04/30/09The Fucking Weather permalinkEarlier this week, it was almost 90 degrees out. Now we’re back to wearing tights and shivering. Thankfully, the Fucking Weather feels our pain. |
From New York 04/29/09UO Inside: A Continuous Lean permalinkA few weeks ago, Michael Williams from A Continuous Lean paid a visit to our offices, so we returned the favor (or more like invited ourselves) and dropped by his Manhattan apartment. He served us drinks in Springer Spaniel glasses, showed us his collections, and made us feel right at home.

From New York 04/13/09Tweenbots permalinkContrary to popular belief, New Yorkers are some of the nicest folks around. Tweenbots are proof of this. Tiny robots developed by Kacie Kinzer, Tweenbots try to navigate from the northwest to southeast corner of Washington Square park, getting stuck on and under things along the way, which is where kindness comes in: Tweenbots need humans—strangers—to help them reach their destinations, and they almost always do. Scanwiches permalinkSandwiches + scanner + blog = internet gold. It’s updated daily. That a lot of sandwiches to eat. |
From Elsewhere 02/16/09Cornify permalinkWe’ve found a new favorite website: Cornify, which promises “Unicorns and rainbows on demand.” Wooo-hooo! All it takes is the click of a button to add rainbows, unicorns and glitter to your images or websites and bring yourself eternal happiness. (Via BeautifulDecay.)

From Australia 02/13/09LightScraper permalinkThe url for Eness, an interactive design and installation firm in Melbourne, is electronicmiracles.com, and it’s particularly apt. One of their most-recent and most-mind-blowing projects is the LightScraper, created for the Rainbow Serpent festival. The LightScraper is outfitted with infrared cameras that track human movement and then transpose it into musical notes and lights, creating an ever-changing aural and visual experience. (Via PSFK.) |
From Elsewhere 01/14/09Portal permalinkAt Portal, a new interactive solo exhibition by artist James Clar in Lyon, France, lines of light bounce from wall to wall and travel through diffuser screens, their color changes triggered by sensors that detect visitors and deliver an experience more akin to a trippy disco than gallery. |
From Portland 01/14/09Engrave Your Book permalinkEngrave Your Book‘s new artist series of reusable Moleskine notebook covers includes designs by Amarillo, Cole Gerst, Cin and Jesse Hora and will make your notebook a prized possession even if all you ever get around to writing is a grocery list. (Via Sub-Studio Design.) |
From Elsewhere 01/02/09Life Image Archive permalinkThe Life Magazine photo archive contains millions of images, including many of the most famous pictures ever published. Searching for “music” turned up Bill Eppridge’s amazing Woodstock images, pictures of Johnny Cash fishing, and David Cassidy attempting to nap in the backseat of the car. It’s a great way to weed out the junk family photos an image search usually pulls up, and clicking through quickly becomes addictive.

From Philadelphia 12/15/08Win an Xbox 360 and Lips permalinkReally, getting wasted at a bar and belting out some Rihanna songs in front of a crowd of strangers is nothing compared to doing it in the comfort of your own home for a bunch of friends and family. Trust us: Now through January 4, you can enter to win an Xbox 360 and Lips, a party-singing game full of tracks from the likes of Coldplay, Peter Bjorn and John, The Ramones and, yes, Miss Umbrella-ella-ella herself. |

From Philadelphia 08/12/08Techno Tuesday permalinkTuesday is good, but Techno Tuesday is great. That’s because on Techno Tuesday doodler par excellence Andy Rementer brightens up our lives with witty and poignant (Yes, we said poignant. You try communicating your worldview via a weekly comic strip.) meditations on how each technological advancement is yet another step back for the analog human experience.
