Expect the same high quality group of speakers from the worlds of art, film, design, photography, fashion and music that you’ve become accustomed to. It all gets going this Saturday at noon at Cooper Union. You can find all the line-up and schedule related details here.

Land Locked and Rocked - Part 1

Land Locked and Rocked - Part 1 permalink

Land Locked and Rocked is a quadruple the fun, quadruple the pleasure live music event happening this Saturday, May 10 at 4 of our non-coastal stores. For all of you that need to drive more than a day just to catch a glimpse of the ocean...never fear, the music is here. Our Boulder location (934 Pearl St.) will be working it out with The Chain Gang Of 1974 (above), who take the stage at 7pm. Up in the Gem State at our Boise, ID store (8th and Front St.), they won’t be humming a few bars of “Here We Have Idaho”. Rather, come 6:30 they’ll be stroking chins to the hush-and-blast of Mayerforceone then communing with the spacerock stylings of The Universal.

NYLON Summer Music Tour

It’s All Happening permalink

Tracy isn’t here this week because she’s packing for a road trip - the NYLON Summer Music Tour.  She’ll be hitting 36 cities with four amazing bands (The Virgins, She Wants Revenge, Be Your Own Pet, and Switches) and sending you weekly updates about all the craziness.  We don’t think anyone’s gonna start singing Tiny Dancer on the tour bus, but hey, you never know.  To join in the fun, hop over to the NYLON Summer Music Tour site before the tickets sell out, and stay tuned next week, when Tracy tells us how many Urban tees she can shove in a duffle bag - she’ll need at least twenty to get from Anaheim to San Diego…

Eric Elms at Colette permalink

Mr. “Never Not Working” himself, Eric Elms, has churned out more solid design/art work than we care to document and somehow managed to maintain a semi-low profile. Well, all that should change now that Colette has given him a well-earned solo show. Do You Think About Me As Much As I Think About You? opens May 5 and runs through May 31. This is a no-miss if you find yourself in Paris.

Yoooo guyz!  Last weekend all creative forces combined to make a great show in Brooklyn at the Galapagos space.  Musicians Darren Weiss and Loren Shane Humphrey (drummer from The Willowz) killed it on the drums.  They were the headliners of the show and did some improvisation with each other, drum to drum.  This was the first show I have seen in awhile where there were no vocals, and trust me, these two more than made up for it!  Darren Weiss blew my mind!  These guys were so inspiring that Nick Darmstaedter and Louis Eisner came up with a rad piece that they were painting on the stage while the show was going on.  More pix from the night are here. Downtown Art Was Blowing Up

Downtown Art Was Blowing Up permalink

We’ve been working with NYLON on a handful of fashion related collaborations for about a year and it’s no secret that we like their kung-fu. So we’re super excited to let you know that the NYLON blog team are going to be contributing to the UO Blog on a weekly basis. Read on:

Yooo guyz!  Last week in NY at the Deitch Gallery the art show “Substraction” opened up.  Me and a few kids went to check it out. There was a big scene there filled with a mix of young and old that came out for the opening. Downtown art was blowing up last week!  My favorite piece of the show was Dan Colen’s rad painting.  (Via Spacey Tracy.)

Open Space’s first annual benefit show, Tote/Bag, stresses the fact that they care about our planet and do not want to just consume until there is nothing left. The proceeds from the sales of the show will go to the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, a New York based organization committed to enviromental advocacy and education. Just about 100 artists contributed totes so if your dance card is clear, head up to Beacon, NY to support good art and a solid cause. The show runs April 12 thru May 3.
