Gossip‘s much-hyped Rick Rubin-produced album isn’t available in the States until 6/23. And while many die-hards saw Rubin’s involvement as just another example of mainstream co-opting indie’s best acts, if the first single, “Heavy Cross,” is any indication, they’ve hit this one out of the park. Sweaty, beer-soaked dancing, anyone?

Filmmaker, artist, skate rat and all-around lovable guy Levi Maestro gained a cult following with his online show Maestro Knows, which was often just him hanging out, or driving around in his car. Tonight, Alife at Space 15 Twenty hosts a special screening of Maestro Knows episodes, plus extra footage from the Levi’s past couple of years. As laidback a kid as he is, if Levi’s videos don’t inspire you to get off your ass and do something, we don’t know what will.

UO Inside: Christian Joy

UO Inside: Christian Joy Studio permalink

Most known for her eccentric designs—a skeleton with spilling guts, various witches, spacemen and jokers—for Yeah Yeah Yeahs lead singer Karen O., Christian Joy’s designs are anything but traditional. She briefly produced her own line before deciding to focus entirely on art and costumes, and recently had her first solo exhibition, The Visitors Must Be Amused, at Audio Visual Arts in New York. And truly, making crazy, out-of-this-world stuff is what Joy does best. We stopped by her Brooklyn studio to see how she does it.
