From San Francisco 05/02/08Maker Faire permalinkMaker Faire: because you can buy stuff, sure. But why not buy stuff that you can make more stuff with? It’s like twice the stuff for half the money. While you’re there, check out tons of exhibits and demos, plus bands and the world’s largest (free!) clothing swap.

From Australia 04/21/08Anna Laura permalinkThe internet is a fickle lover. While we’d like to find mega-cuteness every day of the week, sometimes we just have to wait. Well, thank you, internet cute muse, for offering up these felt badges by Anna Laura. The blue hair, bright red mouth, and 50’s eyes...we only wish we had a drive-thru to drive up to so this gal could rollerskate up to us and take our order. (Via Bloesem.)

From Elsewhere 04/01/08Sewn by Blythe permalinkWe loves us some sewn, stitched, knitted, or crocheted electronics. This radio, by Sewn by Blythe, must be ours. Unfortunately for us, but fortunately for you if you’re in or near Halifax, it’s part of her upcoming show at Argyle Fine Art on April 11. (Via Craft:blog.)

From Elsewhere 03/18/08Reya Veltman permalinkWouldn’t it be amazing to lay on one of those pebble beaches that were made out of these? If anything, there would be two bonuses: Reya Veltman’s wetfelted merino wool pebbles are soft and it would also be like lying on an Andy Goldsworthy photo. (Via Bloesem.)

From Philadelphia 03/12/08Elizabeth Garvey permalinkA friend here at UO HQ told us about Elizabeth Garvey and we’re stoked on that. She’s got some serious range. Her site features her drawings, illustrations, paintings and she wields a mean needle and thread to boot. These Batman and Robin “monsters” are cute, but totally scrappy and rad and avenging at the same time. Bonus points: She recently got her Etsy shop up and running.

From New York 03/10/08Julia Rothman for ReForm School permalinkWe loves us some Julia Rothman. This is the third post we’ve done about her work and she really can do no wrong. These are limited edition, laser-etched ceramic milk bottles that Julia hand-inked in red or grey for ReForm School. Only 40 are available and each are signed and numbered. These’ll look good on a prominent shelf in your living room as opposed to say, left out on the porch for the milkman! (Via d*s.)

From Elsewhere 03/06/08Johanna Anderes permalinkNot sure we’d want to put our drinks down on these beauties. Handprinted letterpress coasters by Johanna Anderes. (Via poppytalk.)

From Elsewhere 11/13/07The Paper Bluebird permalinkWe were torn about what to post here. We really liked this bird ornament (the holidays are coming, natch) but Chapel Hill’s The Paper Bluebird has super beautiful papercut print cards too so you’re just going to have to check for yourself. |

Plus, there might be a few things that, you know, might have fallen off of a truck… if you catch our drift.

From San Francisco 10/30/07Rare Device permalinkBrooklyn-based Rare Device opens up an SF outpost this month, bringing a carefully-curated collection of art-meets-craft to the Bay Area. San Franciscans, prepare to trade your cash (in person!) for little fox necklaces and handmade wishbones. |
From Elsewhere 10/29/07Bryce McCloud permalinkBryce McCloud understands the value of adhering to tradition. When he’s not running the business side of the Isle of Printing shop in Nashvegas, you’ll find him on the business end of a lino tool, carving his illustrations into linoleum block. |
From Los Angeles 10/23/07Megan Whitmarsh permalinkMegan Whitmarsh does lots of neat stuff, but her made-to-order fabric jewelry project? Seriously awesome. Fat rope chains, digital dork watches, doorknockers…all handmade and one of a kind.

From Chicago 09/28/07Renegade Handmade permalinkNo longer just a craft fair, the Renegade girls have gone renegade, opening a storefront on Chicago’s Division Street. Open every day from 11-7, it’s almost as overwhelmingly awesome as the craft fair itself.
